Collaborative communication - Skype for Business

Uninett manages the delivery of Skype for Business to the Norwegian sector of higher education though the service Collaborative communication – Skype for Business. Skype for Business allows you to partake in meetings with anyone, anywhere, and on different devices. The tool allows audio and video calls, direct messaging and sharing of images, documents, files and desktop. It is even possible to connect with users over telephone or internet. Authentication and encryption is used to protect conversations. You can use Outlook to view login status of contact and schedule meetings.

To make sure communication is secure; Skype for Business use some of Uninett’s security certificates. The security certificates are a part of Uninett’s Security certificate service, therefore the institution must subscribe to this service in order to use Skype for Business. Authentication to Collaborative communication – Skype for Business is made through UH-AD, a service provided by The University of Oslo. For more information about the authentication, please contact us at    

Description of the service: 

The service is limited to one domain per organization. All institutions connected the Norwegian national research and education network can use this service. 


The price of Collaborative communication – Skype for Business is a monthly cost of 29 NOK per user.   

Institutions with more than 1000 will receive the following price discount:

The service is available to all of Uninett's members.

Organization of the service: 

Uninett is the owner of Collaborative communication – Skype for Business, and is therefore responsible for the legal and mercantile aspects of this service.   

Development of the service will be a collaboration between institutions using Collaborative communication – Skype for Business and Uninett. However, Uninett is the accountable part.   

Uninett is responsible for all customer contact, except second line support.   

The advisory board for network services is used to ensure customer satisfaction. 


The service is set up with redundancy at two physical locations. A manual fail over takes control in case of an incident at the active location. Currently this procedure can take up to two hours.


The institution is responsible for training and support. Uninett provides technical support to the institution's IT-department. The IT-department will receive access to a personal point of contact at Uninett. Opening hours: 08.00-16.00
