Breakthrough in Norway: paperless exams

During the last year, from fall semester 2014 to fall semester 2015, the number of paperless exams in Norway has quadrupled. Universities and colleges use different ICT systems in their digital exams; some og which offer only written exams, while others enable mathematical calculations, use of chemistry symbols, etc.

The proces of preparing, organizing and finalizing paperless exams is complex. System integration and process coordination on technolgical, academic and adminitrative levels are key factors. Various national and international best practice documents have been made, and can be used as guidelines:

Digital platforms from various vendors are now being tested, and a national digital exam program, run by UNINETT, coordinates planning, testing and procurement processes on a national level.
