    With Feide, students, pupils, researchers and staff all gain access to a series of digital services with the use of a single user name and password.

    Feide is also a platform for easy and safe data sharing. Feide helps educational and research institutions keep track of which services receive which information.

    Data sources and services are linked in a way that makes it easier for service providers to develop and offer good services to the educational and research sector, while allowing end users and the various institutions to maintain control over the spread of personal information.

    Who is Feide for?

    Feide can be used by organizations that carry out non-commercial activities related to research and/or education. Feide is also accessible for private school owners.

    Feide can be used by any supplier that provides education-related services or adds value for people or businesses affiliated with the educational sector.

  • How is Feide organized?

    How is Feide organized

    Feide is provided by Uninett. The Norwegian Directorate for education and training (NDET), the Norwegian Directorate for ICT and joint services in higher education and research (Unit) and Uninett collaborate in managing the service.

    The Service Board for Feide is the governing body for the continued development of Feide, and consists of representatives from Uninett, NDET and Unit, each with its own decision-making authority. The primary and secondary education and training sector and the college and university (CU) sector are to have equal representation in the management of Feide. Unit represents the CU sector, NDET represents the primary and secondary education and training sector, and Uninett, as supplier, is to be regarded as neutral.

    The Service Board is responsible for progress and the management of activities on behalf of Feide, and sees to it that Feide is maintained and further developed as a safe and uniform national solution for logging in and securely sharing data.
     
    The Service Board shall jointly:

    • Adopt strategies and guidelines for Feide, based in part on input from Unit and the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research (MER).
    • Adopt the distribution of responsibilities and tasks among the parties.
    • Follow up on the advice and recommendations of the Priority Councils and other user forums.
    • Maintain cooperative relations inside and outside the public sector, both nationally and internationally. 
    • Prioritize activities and resources in operations, management and further development.
    • The financial and payment model in force at any given time is determined by the Service Board within the scope of the current budget.
    • The agreement model in force with host organizations and service providers at any given time is decided by the Service Board.

    Each party appoints two representatives to the Service Board. In addition, separate director meetings may be called, at which one representative from the senior management of each party joins the Service Board in addition to the permanent representatives. When the parties disagree, one party may request that the matter be brought before the Ministry of Education and Research for a decision.

  • Requirements

    Requirements for Feide

    The company shall use an LDAP catalogue that is adapted to Feides architecture, and shall use the LDAP form norEdu* so that, at a minimum, all required attributes in line with the current schema version are implemented. The company shall give Feide access to a user account in the LDAP catalogue, with authorization to read information defined in Feide’s information model – with the exception of passwords.

    Uninett reserves the right to further develop the architecture and the schema. The company commits to following such changes. Changes and modified routines are made available via E-mail and the web. 

    In the future, when Feide begins to use new attributes, Uninett’s definition of the attributes will apply from the time the change is made public by Uninett and notification therewith is sent to the company. The company is obliged to comply with these definitions as soon as possible after being notified, in accordance with current change routines.

    The company is responsible for keeping user data updated and for maintaining clear update routines. These must include the removal of users for whom the Company no longer wishes to take responsibility. 

    Companies that also provide Feide login services must accept terms of service for service providers.

  • Reliability

    Reliability of Feide

    Feide was designed as a critical piece of infrastructure for the educational sector. There is redundancy in all the components, which can for the most part be updated without any downtime. The accessibility of the various components can vary, depending on their criticality and use. See feide.no for a more detailed description of the various components.

    The service is monitored 24/7 by Uninett operations center.   

    The maintenance window is the agreed time when the service may be unavailable, and is used in the maintenance of hardware, upgrades, service and more. Feide’s maintenance window is the early morning hours (GMT +1) of Tuesday.

    Uninett shall give notice, at least 5 days in advance, of their use of the maintenance window. Notification is sent by E-mail to registered contacts and on feide.no.

    As far as possible, Uninett will not use the maintenance window during critical periods for suppliers and host organizations.

  • Support

    Support for Feide

    The company itself shall provide first-line support for its own users in case of login problems and other problems related to Feide. The affiliated business shall ensure that everyone providing such first-line support has received adequate training in Feide.

  • Price

    Price for Feide

    Costs are to be shared between the college and university sector (CU) and the primary and secondary education and training sector, with the college and university sector covering 25% and the primary and secondary education and training sector covering 75% of the costs. This is related to the percentage of the user base that constitutes the two parts of the knowledge sector.

    Prices for higher education and research

    For UC’s share, Uninett’s payment model will be used for the user payment with the following weighting of distribution keys:

        40% of the cost is distributed as a fixed share

        60% of the cost is allocated based on the number of staff and students.

    Price for the service is specified in the prior notice as specified in the framework agreement.

    Prices for the primary and secondary education and training sector

    The primary and secondary education and training sector’s share of the costs is distributed in accordance with the size of the municipality/county. Updated prices can be found here.

    Initial billing will take into account the time of year when the customer entered into an agreement to use the service.

    Suppliers may connect to Feide free of charge.
