Logganalyse

Log Analysis is a useful, user-friendly analysis tool for monitoring, troubleshooting and resource planning.

  • Hva er Logganalyse?

    What is Log Analysis?

Log Analysis receives and analyzes a large volume of log information by parsing and storing logs (Logstash and Elasticsearch). Then key data is presented through Kibana in a user-friendly, digital format with simple navigation solutions.

To ensure a high degree of accessibility, a redundant 10 GB data network connection is established, while Log Analysis runs on a cluster of redundant machines. The service is scalable to very large volumes of data.

For security reasons, each user has access only to his or her log files. In addition, Uninett has created a «shell» for authentication and authorization around Kibana. Moreover, the logs are only accessible in their original format for a limited period.

The service runs from a data center, where data is stored and processed on dedicated servers that are physically located at Uninett/NTNU and are managed by Uninett. All data and data processing is thus handled by a single supplier and is subject to Norwegian law.

Users of Log Analysis must use Feide login.

The service Security Analysis is dependent on Log Analysis, and the two services are often ordered at the same time. This is why the ordering of Log Analysis is described in the Security Analysis user documentation. However, there is nothing to keep you from ordering Log Analysis without Security Analysis.

  • Pris

    Pris Logganalyse

The price of the service is low compared with commercial alternatives. There can be an extra cost associated with long-term storage of large amounts of logged data. The price is calculated per day, so that unexpectedly massive logins – e.g. when there is an error in a particular system – will not have drastic financial consequences for the customer.

    • The cost is invoiced in arrears, based on registered use.
    • There is no registration fee.
    • If the total use of the service from the entire sector exceeds 300 GB per day, the price can be lowered.
    • For heavier use of Log Analysis, the price per GB will drop in stages.

The overview below shows the cost per annum, given a consistent log volume per day, compared to what the cost would have been at a fixed price of NOK 8.33 per GB.
