Optical channel (lambda)
The customer must have access to optical fiber/channels from his or her institution to the closest UNINETT backbone node.
This service requires that the organization has Internet access via UNINETT.
Across great distances, the backbone is primarily built on infrastructure where UNINETT has access to dedicated wavelengths. It is possible to run private connections parallel to the research and education network. It is also possible to connect these with equivalent connections offered by our international partners. Typical areas of applications for such connections are research projects requiring high capacities with a guaranteed performance, or situations where two departments within the same organization need to connect on a private network.
